The Book of Truth, Chapter One

The gods said among themselves "hark, it is not desirable that there should be none to worship us. Let us create others." And this was the beginning. But deceit did not come into the hearts of the good gods, and betrayal did not pass through their minds, and so they did not know what evil was planning.

The gods looked to Fire, but all that they wrought there was consumed. They looked to Ice, but there was only stillness there, and there could be no life. And the gods said to themselves "lo, it is the way of things; there must be balance." So they wrought a place between Fire and Ice, and named it, and filled it with many things.
